Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Movie Review

Directed by: Michel Gondry

Starring: Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, and Tom Wilkinson

Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) learns that his recent ex Clementine (Kate Winslet) had all of her memories of their relationship erased from her mind in an experimental procedure by progressive medical expert Dr. Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson).  Outraged about this, he goes to the same doctor and gets the procedure done on himself.  As Joel’s memories of his relationship with Clementine are wiped from his mind, he begins to revisit his recollections of the relationship in reverse.  After losing these memories, the two former lovers begin to realize the reason they were together in the first place.  Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is an amazing film that puts a unique, quirky spin on romance.  Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet give amazing performances as Joel and Clementine.  It is one of the most original gems you’ll ever find on film.
