Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

Movie Review

Directed by: Danny Boyle

Starring: Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, and Saurabh Shukla

Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), a teenage boy from the slums of Mumbai, appears on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.  He does very well on the show, which ruffles a few feathers.  The game show host and public officials become suspicious of him and launch an investigation into why he’s been so successful on the game show.  Meanwhile, Jamal has flashbacks that shed light on his success in this moneymaking trivia contest.  Given the game show premise of the film, Slumdog Millionaire is a remarkably compelling journey that is both entertaining and potent.  With this spectacular film, director Danny Boyle brings us tragedy, triumph, laughter, and love.  Slumdog Millionaire is one for the record books.
