300 (2007)

Movie Review

Directed by: Zack Snyder

Starring: Gerard Butler, Lena Headey, David Wenham, and Dominic West

King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) leads a group of 300 soldiers to fight the Persian army in defense of Sparta.  Meanwhile, Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) must deal with political and personal turmoil as she tries to get the Spartan council to send reinforcements to support her husband Leonidas in battle.  I wish I could give you more information, but that is the plot of 300.  Before Gerard Butler ended up in a string of bad romantic flicks (e.g. P.S. I Love You, The Ugly Truth, & The Bounty Hunter) and before Lena Headey became the annoying Lannister on the hot new series Game of Thrones, they were both Spartans.  They were ass-kicking leaders who did what it took to protect both family and country.  300 is an action film that doesn’t tread any new territory whatsoever, but there’s blood, violence, and a number of great one-liners.  Despite all that it lacks in terms of plot and acting, the film is definitely a fun ride.
