The Original Kings of Comedy (2000)

Movie Review

Directed by: Spike Lee

Starring: Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bernie Mac

The Original Kings of Comedy is a Spike Lee joint centering on the comedic talents of Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bernie Mac.  The film highlights the last two nights of their Kings of Comedy tour in Charlotte, NC.  Harvey is the host and delivers a series of small routines, while the other three comedians have one long set each.  Stand-up comedy performances are rarely released as feature films, but in the case of these four veteran comedians, there was no way it couldn’t happen.  The kings are rude.  They’re profane.  They tell it like it is, and you’ll love it.  The kings leave no stone unturned in this hilarious comedy.  They cover black culture, race issues, church, family, and politics.  If you’re looking for big laughs, The Original Kings of Comedy is the easiest choice you’ll ever make.  No comedy bucket list would be complete without it.
