Eastern Promises (2007)

Movie Review

Directed by: David Cronenberg

Starring: Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, and Vincent Cassel

Nikolai Luzhin (Viggo Mortensen) is a driver for a famous Russian mob family.  Anna Khitrova (Naomi Watts) is a midwife in a London hospital who comes across a newborn baby of her recently deceased teenage mother.  Their worlds collide when Anna attempts to track down the mother’s family and finds tragic ties to the Russian mafia.  Anybody who wants to check out a good mob flick needs to see this film.  Eastern Promises is definitely one of the most vicious and violent films I’ve ever seen.  If you decide to imbibe a little alcohol during this film, the brutality will sober you right up.  If you’re looking for a quick crime film, this is your pick because Eastern Promises clocks in at about 1 hour and 40 minutes.
