Hoosiers (1986)

Movie Review

Directed by: David Anspaugh

Starring: Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey, Dennis Hopper, Sheb Wooley, and Maris Valain

Hickory is a small town in Indiana that’s got nothing but its high school basketball team.  When former college basketball coach Normal Dale (Gene Hackman) arrives in Hickory to take over the team after striking a student, he gets less than a warm welcome.  When he starts cutting players, things get hostile.  Despite tensions with both the Hickory community and his players, Dale manages to get his team to the state championship.  Hoosiers is one of the best basketball movies to ever grace the big screen.  Though a little formulaic, you shouldn’t miss out on this rousing underdog story.
