Sleepless in Seattle (1993)

Movie Review

Directed by: Nora Ephron

Starring: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan

Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) is a widower who is raising his son Jonah (Ross Malinger) after his wife’s untimely passing.  Jonah is worried about his father and wants him to find companionship.  He calls a talk radio show and asks the host to help him find a mate for his father, who is lonely and sleepless in Seattle.  Annie Reed (Meg Ryan), a reporter for The Baltimore Sun, hears the nationally syndicated program and is touched by Jonah’s story.  Although she is engaged to Walter (a dull character played by Bill Pullman), she decides to write to Sam. What follows is an ode to An Affair to Remember and a love story that involves two people who never meet…or do they?

Hanks and Ryan are at their comedic best and it is hard not to hope that these two will find their way to each other.
