Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

Movie Review

Directed by: Guillermo del Toro

Starring: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, and Luke Goss

Nuada (Luke Goss), a prince of the elves, seeks to take over the Earth.  To do so, he intends to summon the Golden Army, an indestructible force controlled by a magical golden crown.  Nuada begins collecting the fragmented pieces of this crown so that he can eradicate mankind and control the planet.  Hellboy (Ron Perlman), Liz (Selma Blair), and Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) are the only thing standing in Nuada’s way.  Meanwhile, Hellboy and Liz are having plenty of issues in the relationship department.

Hellboy II is a unique entry to the comic book film genre.  Guillermo del Toro's imaginative filmmaking style adds an elegance to every moment with a monster, demon, or some other ancient creature on screen.  Combine this with great action and quite a bit of comic relief, and you have one truly enjoyable comic book flick.  This is definitely a movie to enjoy with a little buzz.  Hellboy and Abe get drunk.  Why can’t you get in on some of the action?
